For Sussex, Cheteshwar Pujara has maintained his excellent play. Pujara struck his third double ton of the year on Day 2 of their County Championship Division Two match against Middlesex. Due to Pujara's double century, Sussex scored 500 runs in the first two innings. The final wicket to go for Sussex on Wednesday was Pujara. He finished with a 231 on 403 balls. Pujara returned to the Indian Test team earlier in the season after turning up some strong performances for Sussex.

Following the announcement that Tom Haines will be sidelined for 5–6 weeks after fracturing a bone in his hand while batting against Leicestershire last week, Cheteshwar Pujara was named Sussex's acting captain on Tuesday. Pujara has been one of the county's most productive run scorers this year, with more than 750 runs in the six County Championship Division 2 games he has played.

Pujara returned to India's playing XI for the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston on the back of strong performances for Sussex.
